WHAT WE'RE BUILDING— AND HOW WE'RE GETTING THERE
This summer, the district will remove aging playground equipment at Morning Star due to safety concerns. We have a narrow window to replace it before the start of the next school year — or that section of the playground will remain closed for the full year. Kicking off this campaign ensures students return this fall to a safe, complete playground and allows us to thoughtfully plan future improvements.
A THREE-PHASE PLAN
This project is intentionally phased so we can: • Address urgent safety needs now • Plan proactively for aging equipment • Avoid future emergency removals • Create a cohesive, long-term playground for students and the community
MORE THAN A SCHOOL PLAYGROUND
Morning Star’s playground is open beyond school hours and is heavily used by families across our side of town — an area that currently lacks a large, updated playground. It will be a lasting community asset for years to come.
PHASE 1: REPLACE
Goal: ~$80,000 | Timeline: 11 weeks
• Replaces the equipment the district is removing this summer
• Ensures students return in fall of 2026 to a fully functional play area
PHASE 2: EXPAND
Goal: ~$130,000 | Timeline: By Spring 2027
• Replaces aging equipment adjacent to the blacktop to get ahead of future safety-driven removals.
• Adds modern features designed to support active play
PHASE 3: COMPLETE
Goal: ~$190,000 | Timeline: By Spring 2028
• Replaces the existing castle structure
• Completes a cohesive, fully updated playground
• Creates a long-term asset for Morning Star and the surrounding community
WHY A CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
Annual PAC fundraising supports ongoing programs families value, such as art enrichment, after-school programs, staff support, and the school musical. Those funds are fully allocated each year. While the district removes unsafe equipment and contributes toward supporting costs, there is no district budget large enough to fully replace playground equipment. This one-time capital campaign allows us to replace aging equipment now and plan ahead for future improvements — without impacting annual PAC programs
